Sanibel
1994 to Present
In October 1994 Jim migrated further south to Sanibel Island, Florida. In the Northeast sector of the country, the majority of buyers knew only waterfowl. But Jim quickly saw that his 25 years of creating waterfowl sculptures was not going to attract such an avid following in an environment that was home to Herons, Egrets, Wood Storks, Ibis and the like.
He enthusiastically researched and observed a whole new spectrum of bird life and though he had given up his private aviary in his move south, he now had the entire J. N. "Ding" Darling Wildlife Refuge as a new reference source. He became so interested and involved in the Refuge that he was invited to join the auxiliary Friends Society group, eventually becoming its president.
